The story of Devon Christenson
When did you start modeling?
Funny you ask, I began modeling at the age of 3! My mom used to own a high-end kids clothing boutique and had her own kids clothing line so she used me as a model for her look books, photoshoots and fashion shows! I was more on the shy side as a young girl and I wasn’t really aware of what modeling was at that age, but I still seemed to have fun doing it.
As I grew older, my mom bought a womens clothing boutique which I continued modeling for throughout middle and highschool.
Through my moms connections and social media, local business such as several magazine companies, bikini brands, bridal shops, makeup companies and jewlery brands began contacting my mom asking me to model for them which was exciting!
By mid-highscool I was an established model in my hometown & was eager to keep growing once I realized modeling was a passion of mine!
I was also the winner of a runway modeling competition in my home-town and landed the cover and several spreads in the magazine!
Finally, once I graduated highscool, I knew I wanted to move to south FL to persue professional modeling and attend college for Business so I did just that!
What did you fear about it when you started?
When I first began modeling I was most fearful about my body and not being skinny or fit-enough. I was scared to be told to starve myself or workout more because I knew I wasn’t willing to do either of those things.
What modeling job made the most impact on you?
This question could have gone in so many different directions. I’ve had inspirational jobs and I’ve experienced jobs that taught me alot, however, i would say the job that has impacted me most would be the “Victoria” music video by Lunay that i was honored to be the muse of. Not only was the exposure great for my career, the job itself was such a cool experience.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself as a full-time model worldwide, traveling, persuing my social media and content creating career and owning several of my own businesses. I’m not one to plan out my whole life, I usually just take it day by day but this is a rough guess!
If you could give 5 tips on starting to model what would they be?
1. Be yourself! I know it sounds cliché, but it’s important to be authentic so the right jobs, angencies and clients come your way rather than changing yoursef for anyone! I’m proud to say I have lived by this and confidence in yourself regardless of your size, weight or height is key in this industry!
2. If you don’t know where to start, begin by getting used to being infront of the camera! Have someone you’re comfortable with take pictures of you on your iPhone and post them to Instagram.
For example, when i was in middle school, my friends and I used to do our hair and makeup, put on our favorite outfits and steal my moms heels to take “professional” looking model pictures with my sisters camera. Afterwards I would upload them ALL to Facebook (LOL).
I did this for years, got comfortable being infront of the camera and gained so much experience.
3. Make your health a priority. Being a model means looking good for a living! I recommend making self-care, excercise and clean eating your full time job!
4. Begin building a book/portfolio. Find local photographers to do test shoots with and add images to your book almost like a resume! Show what you are capable of through different kinds of photos. Research how to build a strong modeling portfolio.
5. Take digitals and send them in to various agencies through their websites! Research how to take digitals correctly and also research the top modeling agencies in your city!
What is your go to look when you go to a modeling gig?
I always either go with a fresh face or a “no makeup” makeup look. I feel my best with a. Fresh blow out but sometimes leave my hair natural. My outfit is always form-fitting and simple such as black skinny jeans and a crop top or a mini dress and I always wear heels!!
What is it like being an influencer?
Being an influencer is amazing. I wakeup every day and absolutely love what I do which makes me so happy. I get to influence and be a role-model to so many people who watch and follow along with my life and its an awesome way to connect with the world and make new friends!
How do you deal with anxiety?
Yoga and breathing! Whenever I notice anxiety creep into my mind I always try to stop it in its tracks by deep breathing or following breathing meditations on YouTube. Believe it or not anxiety makes your breathe super shallow so deep breathing calms you down.
Yoga and physical activity in general can transform my mood and mental health. Stretching, bending, and moving my body is the best medicine!
