Be curious today and see where it takes you
As a current college student I know that you might feel pressured that you should know what you want to do once you graduate or further down your future. I just want you to know that to this day older people still don’t know what they want and it is okay if you don’t either. I know we know some people have their plans since they’re kids of where they want to go to school, what they want to do after they graduate, where do they want to live, and simply have everything written down. Or maybe your case is this and if it is congratulations. Although maybe your case isn’t this and you still don’t know what you want. Whichever you relate to the most you have to know that is okay to not know what you want yet. It does not make you less worthy or less smart not having a set plan yet.
Something I really suffered throughout my first year of college was not knowing what I wanted, not knowing if I was studying the right major, and not knowing who I wanted to surround myself with. I feel like a big part of learning who you are and learning who you want to be who you surround yourself. It plays a big part in this section of your life. I’ll give you an example; you want to graduate as magna cum laude, you want to get the best internship, you want to go to another school for law school, and get the best job offering after that. What group of friends do you think would be the best to surround yourself in this situation: those who don’t really care about you they just care about your interests, or those who push you to your limit and know that you are capable of achieving whatever you want and won’t get in your way because of jealousy. I would say the second option is the best one to surround yourself with. At the end of the day yes you are your own motivator and you can’t expect anyone to be motivating you constantly, but you do want people who won’t try and ruin your plans and find ways to make you not do them. So that is the first thing to think about when you’re in school, you’re starting a new job, or simply you’re out there in life.
If you are a person who does not know what to do after college or currently in the situation that you don’t know what to do with your life, you just literally have to just live life. I know that sounds silly and you might be like mar that is the tip you’re gonna give us today? Seriously. But what I mean is stop feeling pressured by society and by those who have their plans. Where do I start you may ask, well start by listing your goals, what would interest you in life, what you’re currently majoring , and what can lead you to a job without major.
Start being curious cause curiosity leads to big things. Curiosity to me on my freshman year college led me to discovering what I wanted to do in my future. And if you might feel like you already hit rock-bottom you still got it because believe me I was there and trust me you can get out of there. Start spending your time on things that can lead you to learning more about your passions. For example instead of being on TikTok, go to YouTube and watch some Ted talks about people who might inspire you. Start listening to podcasts instead of music on drives. Start reading books and if you’re not a book person try audiobooks.
And yes you might think “Oh she’s just seeing what everyone says when you’re not motivated” but coming from a person who was once in a low point in freshman year not knowing what I wanted to do with my life constantly thinking if my major was okay, these three things including the people who you surround yourself with literally changed my life, changed my motivation, made me find myself truly, made me find my deepest dreams and started pursuing them, got me so motivated that I started doing my vision boards and simply reaching far beyond that I would’ve thought of. So please take from this that you are not lost you just simply have not found that fire in you that’s going to lead you through discovering your true passions.
Big dreams are not accomplished in a day, so start with something small today. Start by writing off jobs you can get from your major, maybe something caught your interest and if something did interest you start looking it up. Start watching videos of professionals and listening to podcasts. One thing I learned when I was in my self discovery life plan journey is that I found myself looking for the best of the people in the career that I wanted to head in. Meaning I looked up best real estate brokerage with development and luxury. So this led me to finding three of my favorite real estate agents who happen to have podcasts and YouTube videos and books. And then maybe this might lead to an internship, so this brings me back to curiosity. Be curious today and I promise being curious today will lead you to being on your first step to your self discovery life plan. I know you got it in yourself and I know you will do great things.
Xoxo,
Mar
